Through the fog of a not-very-fun spring cold, I spotted the colourful, bold prints of Toronto’s Schoolyard Studio. And I immediately felt better! Amazing what good design, cheerful graphics and a little nod to Canadian content (oak trees!) can do for a girl :)
I was so pleased to learn that the design team of Katy Chan and Hilary Dennis has always focused on making Schoolyard Studio an environmentally friendly company – their products are all made locally and printed in Toronto with water-based inks.
This pretty acorn print tea towel would look lovely in our red/white/black kitchen (nudge, nudge for Mother’s Day, husband!)
Katy and Hillary also have a baby line, including onesies, bibs and blankets all made with those safe, non-toxic inks and eco-friendly fabrics.

Monday was a big day for some very dear friends of mine. They welcomed a beautiful baby girl into their lives, and she has since stolen everyone’s hearts! (Funny how babies can do that so fast… You just can’t fight those eyes, and the adorable little fingers and toes). So I have had “baby girl brain” all week, and thus have stumbled upon Little Jumping Beans. They have the sweetest little shoes, bibs, and crib sheets, all in fabulous fabrics that any fashionable new parent will love.
Jaimie is a mom of two who has a soft spot for pretty fabric and hollywood gossip. She sews all of her creations in her Calgary home.
As an extra bonus, 10% of sales are donated to a different charity every month! I love it when you can shop and do good things for the world at the same time. Visit the Little Jumping Beans Etsy shop for more great stuff, or drop by Facebook and say Hi!
Celebrating the sweetness of new life,
It is supposed to be relatively warm-ish in Ontario this week. Everyone I know is pretty excited by the prospect of maybe seeing those temperatures climb into some positive digits, (so much so that my dear husband is already planning to dig the bbq out of the snow to have some steaks on Friday!).
Maybe it’s a bit of pessimism due to a long sleepless weekend with the toddler, but I can’t help reminding myself that we are not out of the wintery woods quite yet. I expect that once this little warm spell passes, we will still have a few blasts of frigid arctic air to contend with before the *real* warm-up starts to happen. So, instead of being sad, I have decided to celebrate our Canadian wintery-ness by sharing some sweet and pretty cold weather gear from Knittles.
Calgarians Mavis and Olga create these cozy and cute pieces, along with an occasional “guest designer” named Marcy.
What’s that you say? Adult sized ears have been known to get chilly as well? Don’t worry, the Knittles crew have you covered (literally).
Even if the weather is chilly outside, all Cupid needs is one of those precious little aviator hats!
Here’s hoping that your heart is warm with love on this Valentine’s Day.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: There are few things on this earth cuter than baby feet. It’s undeniable. Those pudgy little sausage toes, the delectable little soft roundness… I can’t get enough. I just want to eat. them. up.
Since I clearly can’t do that (unless I want a very interesting call from child services), I must content myself with dressing those little toes in tiny adorable shoes. Admittedly, due to their close relationship with baby feet, the shoes are also on the short list for cutest thing ever. Right now I am loving these ones from Soft Soul Baby Shoes in Montreal.
You can even get them personalized with your little munchkin’s name or initial, just to make them a little more special.
Or perhaps these are a bit more baby’s style:
If you, like me, have spent countless hours trying to find warm boots that are suitable (read: soft soled) for a kiddo who is just learning to take those first brave toddling steps, look no further!
I know I may have a bit of an obsession, but these are seriously cute, right?
A dear friend of mine is expecting her first baby in just a few weeks. Everyone is understandably very, very excited, and hotly anticipating the big arrival. But there is one problem: they don’t really know what to do with the nursery. You see, baby’s gender is remaining a mystery, and Mommy and Daddy-to-be prefer a modern style. Cheesy over-the-top teddy bears or overtly “babyish” cartoony animals just won’t cut it. So, being the good friend that I am, I have used my “expert googling internet-thingy” skills to hunt up some pretty, gender neutral, and 100% cheese-free wall decor that would be perfect for any nursery.
Leo Little Lion is based in Montreal, and they create unique, original wall decals and work with you to make sure that your decal is exactly the way you envisioned it. To top it all off, every purchase you make from Leo Little Lion is a purchase that makes a difference. A percentage of all Etsy sales is constantly reinvested at Kiva.org to support micro-loans that change lives all around the world. That’s something that can make you feel as good as your newly decorated walls look!
There are also decals that can go anywhere in your home, so baby doesn’t get to have all the fun. I particularly like this bouquet of tall roses:
You can find Leo Little Lion on their website, the Etsy shop, Cargoh shop, Facebook, and Twitter. What a fun and easy way to add some style to any room, and simple to change whenever the mood strikes!
Winter has definitely arrived, with cold temperatures, and some snow (ok, in some places a LOT of snow). That means it’s time to snuggle up with cozy blankets in front of a fire, or stay just a few extra minutes tucked into your warm bed before facing the day. I love the feeling of a nice soft, comfortable blanket tucked around me just right. So when the weather dips into those dreaded negative numbers, out comes my stockpile of fleecy or knitted delights. If you want to wrap your little one in something a little more personal than a generic pink or blue blankey, you won’t want to miss Baby Magoo. I have seen them at shows over the years, and always end up coo-ing over their lovely designs!
If you have a baby shower coming up, or your kids are a bit older, you can choose one of the other styles without the custom work. They are just as soft and beautiful, and you can easily find one to go with any room decor too!
They also have the most adorable hooded towels in fun animal prints:
The weather outside may be frightful, but staying cuddled up and warm is delightful!
Kids are cute. Kids dressed up in adorable outfits are extra cute. Kids dressed up in adorable outfits that are unique and special?? Ridiculously cute. So, if you are like me, and enjoy making sure that the little people in your life look ridiculously cute… you may want to check out the hot real estate on Lilikoi Lane. Lilikoi is the hawaiian word for passion fruit, and just like the fruit, their shirts are bright, fresh, and full of life. There are all kinds of designs to choose from, and each one is made to order! Pick the design that you love, then select the colours and sizes to make it just right for your precious little person.
Oh, and just so nobody feels left out, Lilikoi Lane has adult sizes too! From six months, right up to Mom and Dad, everyone can have their very own unique piece. Or, if you prefer, the whole family can match, or have variations on one theme. There are so many possibilities and combinations with these fun and colourful shirts. If you don’t see a template design that suits you, just ask, custom work is always available.
Have a great day!
There is something extra special about little baby feet. I find them so delectable that it is a shame to cover them up. But, as the temperature drops, I find myself having to put socks and shoes on my little munchkin. While this does make me a little bit sad, I am so glad that there are talented crafty types who make adorable footwear to keep those precious little toes warm and cozy. Right now I am madly in love with these sweet booties from Little Knits on the Prairie. Inspired by the colours (and weather) of Manitoba, these great booties would look fantastic on any baby from coast to coast!
There are other products available in the shop as well, like cute headbands and legwarmers. Custom orders are welcome too, just ask!
Little Knits on the prairie has recently joined facebook, so be sure to head over and make her feel welcome. She also has a blog, and of course, the Etsy shop. Rumour has it that there may even be lovely soft knitted clothes for “grown up” ladies sometime in the near future, so stay tuned!
Update: Amanda now has another shop on Etsy, The Prairie Sparrow, featuring cozy knit cowls, felted bowls and more!
Say it isn’t so! We had to turn on the fireplace yesterday because it was (ugh) COLD in our house.
The only thing that can make the prospect of winter’s inevitable arrival a little more bearable? Cute winter-wear accessories… for BABIES! Heather is a crafter and mom to 3 little ones in New Brunswick who discovered knitting after her daughter was born. Good thing for us, because her mittens, slippers and hats are adorable!
Perfect for little baby hands with stubbornly curled fingers, her polka-dot mittens are lightly felted for a little extra cozy-factor!
This baby acorn hat just made me grin when I saw it! How perfect for fall!
These tiny little slippers would be a perfect Christmas stocking stuffer (I know, sorry to break the news, but the holidays aren’t that far away!).
You can find Heather and her HandKnit Hugs on Etsy – she has plenty of colour combinations available and a couple of sizes to make sure that you can coordinate and fit to your little ones. Natural fibers are so lovely, and Heather makes them even lovelier!
Oh, these perfect little clouds and raindrops are working their way into my heart. I’ve been back to The Butter Flying’s shop several times, wondering just which of the adorable mobiles I can find a home for in our house. I’m kind of wishing that I had a pregnant friend right now so that I could convince her to design her nursery around these.
The Butter Flying is the brainchild of a Montreal-based interior- and product designer and the whimsical, colourful cloud mobiles are available in many different colour combinations.
I also really love this origami fishing boat and fish mobile, inspired by a recent trip to Thailand.
Enjoy, and remember, these are pretend raindrops so summer is still here for a little while!
** Bonus!** The Butter Flying offers free shipping within Canada when you purchase from the Etsy shop!
