Through the fog of a not-very-fun spring cold, I spotted the colourful, bold prints of Toronto’s Schoolyard Studio. And I immediately felt better! Amazing what good design, cheerful graphics and a little nod to Canadian content (oak trees!) can do for a girl :)
I was so pleased to learn that the design team of Katy Chan and Hilary Dennis has always focused on making Schoolyard Studio an environmentally friendly company – their products are all made locally and printed in Toronto with water-based inks.
This pretty acorn print tea towel would look lovely in our red/white/black kitchen (nudge, nudge for Mother’s Day, husband!)
Katy and Hillary also have a baby line, including onesies, bibs and blankets all made with those safe, non-toxic inks and eco-friendly fabrics.
To see more of Schoolyard Studio‘s offerings, visit their site (and enjoy their spring cleaning sale in the kitchen department!). You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter.

If you remember our Canada Day giveaway, you might remember the fun spring tote bag that was part of the prize pack… that bag came from My Girl Thursday, and since she’s just relaunched her Etsy shop, I wanted to share a couple of my favourites from her line-up!
Hailing from Peterborough, Ontario, Chantilly (aka Thursday in the online world) has always been a thrifter, and finds ways to include what she calls “second chance textiles” in all of her projects. She’s just relaunched her Etsy shop, and it’s full of fun, colourful fabrics. These reversible aprons are adorable, with great big pockets and a sweet button detailing on the shoulders.
Now here’s an interesting idea – Thursday has added chalk cloth to her popular tote bags, so that you can write your to-do list right on your bag! Pretty clever, right? These have been pretty popular for Thursday, so if you see one you like, don’t dillydally (no one says dillydally anymore, right? Sorry, just channeling my inner Grandma for a minute!).
In addition to keeping busy crafting, Thursday also runs a popular blog at www.mygirlthursday.com, and you can find her on Twitter and Flickr, too! If lovely fabrics are your style, please drop by for a visit and see the variety available.
Cheers,
~Sarah
P.S. Friendly Tip: If you like to win handmade goodies, you should definitely check out her blog since she features a group of new artists and crafters every month, with a contest to win something from each of them! Very fun!
