Canadian+Handmade is the brainchild of sisters Sarah and Jennifer, and born of a love for things unique and made locally. In this case, “locally” taken in the broadest sense means anywhere in this vastly beautiful Canadian nation.
(Please note: we’re on hiatus from highlighting new artists right now, but hopefully we’ll be back one day.)
Canadian+Handmade is dedicated to supporting the handmade industry in Canada and strives to highlight the artists, makers and crafters who make the handmade world so vibrant and inspiring. We believe that there is a passionate and patriotic desire within many Canadians to “buy Canadian”, but we recognize that this is sometimes difficult to accomplish in the international world of the internet. Artisans currently living, working and selling within the Canadian marketplace are eligible to be featured (Canadian citizenship not required, but you do need to live and work here!). We look for artisans who approach their work with professionalism – of course this means an excellent and unique product offering, but it also includes great photography, a well-developed, current online presence and a shop or gallery for our readers to discover their own favourite products.
C+H began in early 2010 and reached it’s peak in the spring of 2011, before taking an extended hiatus while the sisters both faced some life challenges – including, but not limited to, purchasing a new business, moving across the country, birthing children etc etc.

A bit about us…
Sarah loves beautiful paper, a great purse, Sharpie pens, her Nikon, buying local, a good meal with better wine and even better friends, going to the airport with passport in hand, singer-songwriters, geocaching, yoga class and discovering new campsites with her family. She relocated back to Southern Ontario in August of 2011, but will always carry a love of the Canadian prairie with her after 8 years “out west”. Her family consists of her stellar husband, their 2 girls, a dog, a cat and 2 guinea pigs. There used to be fish, but they aren’t very good at keeping them alive. Sarah is currently working part-time jobs for the family business and as Event Coordinator for a local Centre for the Arts. She tries to make time everyday for her own creative pursuits and fitness goals while mothering and tackling all sorts of family projects.

Jennifer has a particular fondness for coloured glass, loves all things sparkly, diving into a great book, big shady trees, and baby giggles. She loves traveling throughout Canada, and currently has only one province and the northern territories left to see before she can “complete the sweep”. She lives in Southern Ontario with her husband, her 2 adorable children, and their cat. Her biggest crafty projects are scrapbooking and card making, but she truly admires and appreciates the talent and creativity of those who create so many other beautiful projects.
