Community Day #4: For Everything There Is A Season

We know you’re out there, working, playing, being inspired and challenged every day by the world around you, and we would love to get to know you a little better!

Please join us here in the comments or on your social media avenue of choice (Facebook, Twitter) for our 4th Community Day session!

It’s summer!  The snowy cold of winter is a distant, chilly memory, the crunch of fall leaves underfoot is still far off in the future… So we can’t help but wonder:

“How do the changing seasons affect what you create?  Do you find yourself using different supplies? A different selection of colours or patterns?  Does your creative process itself change with the weather patterns?”

We’d love to hear what you have to say!

Happy Birthday Canadian+Handmade!

Jenn and I are toasting all of our C+H friends, featured artists, crafters, Twitter-buddies and Facebook pals this week (that includes you! Cheers!) as we celebrate our first anniversary!

It was a little over a year ago that Jenn and I put our heads together in my family room in central Alberta and hatched a plot to help share our love of handmade, and particularly focus on the beautiful, talented Canadian artists we’ve come across online and at local shows. Thank you for coming along on that ride with us for the last 12 months and for cheering on the artisans that we’ve shared.

Our very first feature was Etsy shop TamamiKoBag, which is still one of my favourites (I have 2 of her gorgeous bags and use them all the time!). I look back and think that first post was pretty telling about what we do here at C+H – creative, beautifully made, and with a touch of something unique that makes it truly Canadian.  This year we met lots of you as you commented (and we answered), you joined in on our Canada Day giveaway, more of you shared you thoughts on our C+H Handmade Holiday Challenge as it all came together and our Community Day questions allowed us to get to know you a little better, too!

We have big dreams for our corner of the internet and we’re working towards bringing some of them to fruition in the not-too-distant future. For now, though, we want to give you a little glimpse of our gorgeous new look – a sneak peek, if you will! We’re working behind the scenes to put it all together, but we’re so thrilled with this logo that Lindsay Brewda, owner and creative force behind Grace Announcements, created for us that we just didn’t want to wait any longer to show it off…

So, stay tuned for more C+H fun this year, we hope you’ll join us for our 2nd birthday next spring, too!

Thank you for being  part of our community here,
~Sarah and Jennifer

Community Day #3: Alone or Together?

We know you’re out there, working, playing, being inspired and challenged every day by the world around you, and we would love to get to know you a little better!

Please join us here in the comments or on your social media avenue of choice (Facebook, Twitter) for our 3rd Community Day session! Jenn and I were both away this weekend at crafting retreats, which inspired today’s question of the day:

Do you feel more inspired when surrounded by other people, or do you prefer to create in solitude? If you work outside the home, is your work space a social hub or do you close the door and crank up your iPod?

P.S. Did you miss the previous Community Day questions? You can still comment and share, we’d love to hear from you!

Community Day #2: Music

Community Day #2: Music

We know you’re out there, working, playing, being inspired and challenged every day by the world around you, and we would love to get to know you a little better!

So, please join us here in the comments or on your social media avenue of choice (Facebook, Twitter) for our second Community Day session. Here’s the question of the day:

Do you crave music in your day, or does silence soothe your soul? If music is important to you, who are your favourite artists? Do they change depending on your mood?

P.S. Did you miss the last Community Day? You can still comment and share, we’d love to hear from you!
Community Day #1: Inspiration

Community Day #1: Inspiration

In honour of our 200th post, and the friendly little community that joins us here at Canadian+Handmade every day, we are introducing a regular feature that we’re calling “Community Day“. We know you’re out there, working, playing, being inspired and challenged every day by the world around you, and we would love to get to know you a little better so we’re giving you your own day. Lucky ducks ;)

So, please join us here in the comments or on your social media avenue of choice (Facebook, Twitter) for our first Community Day session. Here’s the question of the day:

What is the one thing you always seem to gravitate to for inspiration – when you’re running low on creativity or energy, how do you find your mojo again?
