This weekend will see many of us sharing special memories, meals, and of course gifts with the mothers in our lives. If you want to infuse this celebratory time with a little bit of handcrafted beauty, then be sure to check out one of these fabulous events! Pick up a little something for Mom, or better yet, take her with you!
(As a side note, if you know someone for whom this weekend might be especially hard, maybe a little note, a phone call, or a day out could make all the difference in the world…)
Vancouver, BC: Have you Got Craft? Head to the Legion at 2205 Commercial Drive on Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and you can answer “of course I do!”. You can browse over 55 booths showcasing talented local crafters. Come early and you could be one of the lucky ones who get to take home a free bag of swag! Admission is $3.00, and you can find a map here. Want a sneak peek? check out some of the exhibitors here (there are several C+H faves who will be making an appearance!)
Edmonton, AB: This weekend marks the fifth annual Butterdome Spring Craft Sale. More than 160 vendors will be at the University of Alberta Butterdome (which makes sense really, considering the name!) showcasing a wide range of handcrafted items. Doors open daily at 10 am, and close at 10 pm on Friday, 6pm on Saturday, and 5 pm on Sunday. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for seniors and students, and kids under 12 are free. The Butterdome is at 87 avenue and 114 street, or see this map for details.
Almonte (near Ottawa), ON: Drive about 20 minutes west of Ottawa, and you can find the Almonte Agricultural Hall, home of the second annual Handmade Harvest Show (spring edition). This is a one-day-only show, running from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday May 7th. Admission is only $2.00 and there is lots of free parking. Why not stop by and check out some of the 50+ local artists and crafters? Best of all: they guarantee that there will be absolutely no crocheted toilet paper covers (shudder). Click here for directions to Almonte.
Three cheers to Spring, and to Mamas!

Through the fog of a not-very-fun spring cold, I spotted the colourful, bold prints of Toronto’s Schoolyard Studio. And I immediately felt better! Amazing what good design, cheerful graphics and a little nod to Canadian content (oak trees!) can do for a girl :)
I was so pleased to learn that the design team of Katy Chan and Hilary Dennis has always focused on making Schoolyard Studio an environmentally friendly company – their products are all made locally and printed in Toronto with water-based inks.
This pretty acorn print tea towel would look lovely in our red/white/black kitchen (nudge, nudge for Mother’s Day, husband!)
Katy and Hillary also have a baby line, including onesies, bibs and blankets all made with those safe, non-toxic inks and eco-friendly fabrics.
To see more of Schoolyard Studio‘s offerings, visit their site (and enjoy their spring cleaning sale in the kitchen department!). You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter.

Mother’s Day is quickly approaching, and sometimes it can be hard to find just the right gift to show Mom how much she means to us. As always, we here at C+H are here to help! So we have gathered together a few ideas that might serve as a bit of inspiration… Jewelry is always a great option, and I really like this pretty necklace from Menuet Designs:

for the mama bird who watches over her family tree
<image source> It goes without saying that Mom’s special day would be incomplete without the perfect card. I like this one from Hairchick, especially all the different layers, and the sweet saying… Perfect for a crafty seamstress Mom!

Crafty or not, she's still number one!
<image source> Want a sure-fire way to make sure that you are the “favorite” child? Treat Mom to a lovely bag or purse (or shoes, but I digress!). Something like this beautiful Peacock clutch from Halifax’s Mermaids Dream is certain to make her beam with delight.

The vibrant and rich colour is gorgeous... so pretty!
<image source> Of course, there is always a no-fail solution to any Mother’s Day Dilemma… A bouquet of fresh, cheerful flowers and a fantastic box of luscious chocolates. Something like these tempting treats from Daniel Chocolates of Vancouver would be just the ticket. Don’t they look delicious?

mmmm... *drool*
<image source> Oh, and once you are done shopping for the mothers in your life… perhaps a small treat for yourself? Sounds like a good plan, am I right?
Three cheers for Mom!
~Jenn
