In honour of our 200th post, and the friendly little community that joins us here at Canadian+Handmade every day, we are introducing a regular feature that we’re calling “Community Day“. We know you’re out there, working, playing, being inspired and challenged every day by the world around you, and we would love to get to know you a little better so we’re giving you your own day. Lucky ducks ;)
So, please join us here in the comments or on your social media avenue of choice (Facebook, Twitter) for our first Community Day session. Here’s the question of the day:
What is the one thing you always seem to gravitate to for inspiration – when you’re running low on creativity or energy, how do you find your mojo again?
I tend to gravitate to TED.com and re-watch some of my all-time favorite videos!
Awesome, Joel! I’m hoping we have TEDx here again soon!
I look through my supplies and materials and remember my earlier thoughts of what I was going to use them for when I got them.
So true, Laura! Sometimes there are amazing things tucked away in a drawer or a file that will light that spark again!
I love the internet for inspiration, even just watching the news, or seeing a photo online, can spark an idea… that can translate into a new creative endevour ;)
Thanks for sharing, Trish!
I have several favorites blogs and websites that I go to. I love seeing what others create, and it gets my mojo going! I also use challenge blogs, where they give you a sketch and ask you to make a card etc. Fun participating!
Great ideas, Melissa! Challenge blogs can really push you outside your comfort zone sometimes!
I like your Community Day! For me, I always start with something small that makes me happy, which is usually a cup of my favorite tea. Then browsing the web I am usually motivated by other artists, entrepreneurs, crafters or new lines of fabric. Lots of times I find I need to get organized before I can get my mojo going again.
Nothing like a good cup of tea :) And I completely agree about getting organized first… although sometimes that’s just a procrastination technique in my case!!

I love your blog and agree with everyone’s suggestions.
I also read, do Artist Dates (fringe festival, Nuit Blanche, anything), and do yoga. I try changing formats, like writing a poem instead of a novel.
Congrats on your 200th!
Great comments, Melissa! I like the idea of “changing formats” – maybe drawing instead of painting, or black and white photography instead of colour… lots of ways to change it up!
